Dr. Peter Aiken
Peter Aiken, Ph. D. is widely acclaimed as one of the top ten data management authorities in the world. In addition to examining the data management practices of more than 500 organizations, he has spent multi-year immersions with organizations as diverse as the U.S. Department of Defense, Deutsche Bank, Nokia, Wells Fargo, Walmart, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and numerous other high profile clients.
As President of DAMA International, his expertise in the practice is unquestioned. He has been an Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business Information Systems Department since 1993 and owns Data Blueprint, an award-winning data management and IT consulting firm. He has assisted a number of organizations with their data management strategies and systems initiatives. In 1992 he was recruited by the Department of Defense to work in the Center for Information Management's (CIM) Information Engineering Directorate where he directed a multimillion-dollar DoD-wide reverse engineering program aimed at recovering data architectures. These and other results have been reported in publications ranging from the Communications of the ACM to the IBM Systems Journal to InformationWEEK and seven books, including Data Reverse Engineering and Building Corporate Portals Using XML (McGraw-Hill 1996/99).
Dr. Aiken's achievements have resulted in recognition in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in American Education and other biographical compilations. He is the recipient of the DAMA International Achievement Award (2001, with Ted Codd), the DAMA International Community Award (2004), and the prestigious International Stevens Award (2010). His firm, Data Blueprint, has been nominated for the Greater Richmond Technology Council’s IT Builder Award (2006), as well as the RichTech Technology Innovation Healthcare Award (2011).
