How do I get permission to publish a copy of The Zachman Framework™ or other Zachman® materials?

We want you to print and use your copy of The Zachman Framework™ graphic (available when creating an account and logging in). However, Zachman International's® printed, electronic and audiovisual materials, may not be republished, reprinted, or distributed beyond your personal use without written permission or contractual agreement.

Requests for Permissions: Zachman International will grant permission to use copyrighted material from all Zachman International graphics, journals, books, professional standards and audiovisual materials. Include in your written request for permission, the book, journal, and the chapter or article title(s) that you are interested in; volume, issue, and page numbers; copyright year; the purpose of the requested use; number of photocopies you plan to make; the name and address of your publisher if you intend to publish.

Fair Use: In accordance with industry standards, authors may use excerpts from Zachman International written material of up to 300 words, except for figures or tables or the graphic image of The Zachman Framework™, without requesting formal permission or, on rare occasions, paying possible fees. Full attribution is expected. Tables and figures or the graphic image of The Zachman Framework™ may not be reprinted without express permission.

In accordance with the Fair Use Section of the Copyright Act of 1976, Zachman International will not grant permission to photocopy articles or abstracts from journals or the graphic image of The Zachman Framework for one-time use for the purpose of research, scholarship, training, professional development and education without permission and possible payment of a fee. This provision includes one-time use of multiple copies in classrooms, agencies, or for distribution at a seminar.

Republishing:Zachman International frequently receives requests to republish articles from its journals, other written materials or the graphic image of the Zachman Framework. Zachman International generally will grant permission, contingent on agreement with the author. If the author does not consent to Zachman International's republishing agreement, Zachman International will not grant permission.

Reprinting: Contracts with copy houses permit copying without prior consent. Permissions for reprinting any portion of Zachman International written materials or the graphic image of The Zachman Framework™ must be requested on an individual basis.

Do You Need Permission?

Generally, you must seek permission to use the following:

  • the graphic image of The Zachman Framework™ beyond your personal use 
  • all, artwork, photographs, or audiovisual material
  • any table or figure
  • all articles
  • all white papers
  • a quotation that is 10 percent or more of the original work
  • any quotation of 300 words or more.

Request permission from the copyright holder, Zachman International, Inc. Obtaining permission to use materials often requires several weeks; therefore, you should seek permission early. Requesting and obtaining permission to use materials is solely the responsibility of the author, not the publisher.
